Sprouting Window Boxes

This is a picture of a window box on the north side of my house. I have tried impatiens, ivy and many other shade loving plants but to no avail and so, I have many many birdhouses, antique and new, clustered up telephone poles, hanging in trees, on fence posts.... Anyway, the two window boxes on this side of the house now sprout birdhouses and a few of my bird garden antiques too and the best thing is, I don't have to water them. Can you tell I just cannot stop thinking or wishing for spring and summer and I'll even water too! And as icing on the cake, little Jenny wrens go into these little cubbies to sleep at night. So cute.

What a great idea for a box that is difficult to grow in! I actually tried ferns in the shade and that is working but I would prefer some color, I think I'll add a birdhouse or two....I enjoy your blog, and remember part of the joy of spring is dreaming about it! Jacque

How lovely they are !
I'm a collector/lover of birdhouses also, all shapes and sizes. I hang them on trees, sit them on the porch, dangle them from the garden arbor, nail them to the fences, they are everwhere :)
I have a little Carolina Wren making her Winter nest in one on the back porch, she's such a busy bodand acts like she owns the place.
Love your idea !

My father and I make birdhouses and embellish them with miniatures. I love the look of this window box with the birdhouses neatly lined up!
