Here Chick, Chick, Chicks

Look what I got today. It has been awhile. We raised chickens for many years; enjoyed them, their eggs and their antics. When my son went away to college, they sort of went away too. Coyotes, old age and other varmints finally killed off our flock. We never would eat them and even eating their eggs are hard when you know what's in them. Its been lonely on the farm without them. This isn't the time of year one usually starts their flock, but I couldn't wait till spring. So I got 10 pullets (girls) and will get guineas and turkeys in the spring. Turkeys are my favorites as they are so loving and have great personalities.

Taking a little nap - it is too cute!

Oh my gosh...they are so cute! I want chickens so bad, but Cat Daddy stands firm with a big ol' no! Something about having to pick pin feathers as a child or some over crazy thing!(I've got to admit...guineas scare the heck outta me!)
We were just talking this past weekend about pullets. That's a word you just don't hear anymore. When I was little, I thought it had something to do with the pulley bone!

I saw chicks and turkeys this past weekend at a sale we stopped at, no they weren't for sale or I probably would have had to have one or two. I had roosters at one time, they were free at a sale. I love them and would have them again expect, my boys and the neighbors would probably complain! They are too cute.

Donna they are so sweet !
They do have personalities you are correct, after awhile you get to know each one of their traits.
Good luck with your new "pets", I know they'll be happy at your farm...

my sister-in-law raises chicks for show and at the end of the competition season we get a choice... layers or fryers... we usually pick fryers! ;)
