A River Runs Through It

I was blown away by this movie for some reason. This scene in particular moved me beyond words. Brad Pitt is my favorite actor and did not disappoint in this movie. And yet, this is the scene I remember to this day. The quoting of Wordsworth's Ode: Intimations on Immortality (Don't quote me on the title, I can't find my notes) between father and son just blew me away. Subsequently, I memorized Wordworth's ODE and it was the first time I realized how old I had gotten. In earlier times I could memorize anything; I've even been asked if I have a photographic memory (no). It took me a long time to memorize this work, I shall not say more. Since then, I have memorized more works. The Road Not Taken by Frost, more Wordsworth, C.S. Lewis... Anyway, this movie is worth a watch again if you haven't seen it in a while.

I totally understand...I can quote word for word "The Raven" and "Jabberwocky", but I can't remember where I put my glasses!

Donna... you've named some of my favorite poets... my favorite poem, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost has been my life's theme... and I have never looked back...

I agree with you completely about "A River..." one of Brad Pitts best works, and one of my favorite "family" movies of all time...

Hi Donna
I found the recipe in english.

CORN AND MEAT PIE
Serves 12.
This is a popular Chilean recipe.

6 large ears of corn, grate the kernels
8 leaves of fresh basil, finely chopped
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. butter
1/2-1 cup milk
4 large onions, chopped
3 tbsps. oil
1 lb. (1/2 kg) finely ground lean beef
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp. ground cumin
4 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
1 cup black olives
1 cup raisins
12 pieces of chicken, browned in hot oil, seasoned with salt,
pepper and cumin
2 tbsps. confectioners' sugar

Heat the grated corn, chopped basil, salt and butter in a large pot. Add the milk little by little, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
Cook over low heat for 5 minutes. Leave to one side while you prepare the meat filling. Fry the onions in oil until transparent, add the ground meat and stir to brown. Season with salt, pepper and ground cumin. To prepare
the pie use an oven-proof dish that you can take to the table. Spread over the bottom of the dish the onion-ground meat mixture. Arrange over this the hard boiled egg slices, olives and raisins. Put the chicken pieces on
top, bone the chicken if you like. Cover the filling with the corn mixture. Sprinkle the confectioners' sugar over the top. Bake in a hot oven 400 Deg. F (205 Deg. C) for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown. Serve at once. In Chile more sugar is served to sprinkle over the "pastel" as it is eaten. Serve with "Ensalada Chilena".

May be you can do it. It´s really delicious.

I think it's great that you have your own farm corn stored in your freezer.
With that your cake will be delicious.
Warm greetings from Chile.

I always loved that movie and have not seen it in years. I enjoyed watching that clip and will be sure to see it again. Funny how movie moments can stick with you. I have the same feelings towards 'A Room with a View'. Denholm Eliot asks his sons to leave behind his Thoreau book saying "I need him by me now'. A movie moment that just stayed with me. Glad I am not the only one! I was lucky, I only had to remember one line :)
