Button Up

I've been collecting buttons for many years.  Some are glass, bone, bakelite; many with beautiful designs and jewels embedded. Some are huge and some are tiny baby clothes buttons. Usually they come in glass jars with pieces of costume jewelry, hair combs, thimbles and buckles included.  So what does one do with gallons of buttons?  I don't know.

Here are some of my favorites.  The clear bunch of cherries, an art deco era piano keys button and my fav, this large 60's button with little velvet flowers encased.

I was just thinking ... What is she going to do with them, then I got to ..."I don't know." Hmmm... there must be projects out there, though they look good in the wood box!

Maybe a craft search on pinterest would uncover some ideas. LOVE your favorite buttons. I would use the red one at the top of a blouse. So cute!

I've thought many times about making a tied quilt but instead of the pieces of thread or yarn tied every few inches to bind the layers together, to use an assortment of old buttons instead. I bet they would really be one of a kind and could be really enjoyed individually that way :)

As a child, one of my favorite activities was going through mother's button box. Buttons are so darn... cute! Yes Donna, You did win the Garden Print, just email me your mailing address.

I love old buttons. I am not sure what to do with mine yet.
Let me know if you find a good way of using beautiful old buttons.(smile)

This is impressive!!! You could do a fancier version of those Londoners who decorate their clothes by covering over them entirely with buttons arranged in patterns. Maybe do a jacket or a vest at least? Do you know of them - the Pearly kings and queens?

Gesbi, I have never heard of them. The clothing thing sounds very interesting.
