World Naked Gardening Day

Yes, it is that time again.  A favorite holiday it would seem since I seem to get so many views of this post.  So, what the heck.  Here it comes around again, for old times sake.

The first Saturday in May is World Naked Gardening Day. No kidding. Yes, yours truly used to often garden in the buff in her younger days.  That free spirit Edna St. Vincent Millay also used to garden and weed in the nude at her beloved Steepletop estate in New York.  Known for her wild ways, she famously wrote, "My candle burns at both ends."  I just love her.

Alas, after a bout with skin cancer and my aging skin and body, I no longer garden without clothing and a hat.  It is much cooler without them though.  Oh, and yes, I got caught several times gardening nude. I either ran like a linebacker back to the house or grabbed a workshirt hanging on the tomato cages nearby.  Oddly, I wasn't mortified nor embarrassed. I was pissed - usually confronted the interlopers to let them know that I knew they saw me.  Mind you, I live on a farm and do not abide those who show up unannounced.  Nevertheless, happy Naked Gardening Day this weekend.

I would think it would be very uncomfortable to garden without the protection of clothing. Even when I garden in shorts and a t-shirt I am covered in nicks and scratches, bug bites and a sunburn. I think I will pass!

Lol...you are a wild one dear friend :)
I've been close to gardening naked in my young and flaunty years, but always covered up my bits with a string bikini, just in case the postman had a delivery !
Where did you hang your gardening tools ?

I love that! I need a garden, I guess!
No rose pruning on that day though! Actually, being one of the palest girls
on the planet, I think i'd have to do night gardening!

I have never tried it and being on a corner lot, probably won't. It also doesn't sound appealing to me what with all the scrapes and rashes I end up with after elbowing with the shrubs. But I love the thought that someone enjoys it!

I've been gardening nude for years, more now since we live on a small farm here in the hill country. I keep a smll wading pool to cool off in when it gets too warm!

I don't even like to change without clothes on.

I've never attempted this, but naked and gardening do go together!

I discovered your blog from your comment on Sahildeki Ev, she does sometimes write in English so keep following her. I love "Gather" such a great title and as for naked gardening - in Turkey, you must be joking.

I wonder who dreams up these things - someone with nothing else better to do I suspect. I have to say I have never gardened naked - wouldn't want to frighten the horses - as they say - but I have been known to garden in my underwear - which is not quite so frightening!

I think my son is the most modest in our family. But, the rest of us are not. My two elder grand children run around naked when they are at the farm. They just love it. No inhibitions at all. The universe would implode if I did it now.

Especially in Turkey. It is hot there isn't it. And, they don't wear the hajibs do they? I have read your blog also. She stopped doing the one that was always in English but I still look at hers even though I just have to look at the pictures. Hera seems to still be fine.

I would imagine it started back in the 60's with the hippies. I remember when I used to go braless which was a big deal back then. I would think underwear counts, but as I told Monique above, the universe would implode if I did it now. On the other hand, no one would be there to see it around here.

The pink wellies are too pretty not to wear, but perhaps feet are an exception.

Mise, I guess it depends whether your are shoveling or not.
