Faceless

Faceless love.  One of my tiny treasures.  This little wooden guy separates at the waist and it must be a match holder.  Supposedly made by a Quaker; they don't put faces on their dolls.  Why, do you think, would it be sinful to paint on a face?

I've read several reasons, from being a religious belief that only God can make people, to a vanity reason of not encouraging children to emmulate a painted face of a doll as perfection, to simply a parallel of Pioneer rag dolls created at the same time which were also faceless, due to simplicity.
He's a cute fellow !

I must admit..that some days..or for some reasons..faceless..sounds appealing.
