My Favorite Things

These are a few of my favorite things.  I just love this plate.  It is very old and the bird nut I am, well it flew into my arms and into the city house.  A robin, I believe.

Then again, as you can see, I have many favorite things.  I am simply unpacking and placing things wherever.  I'll keep tweaking, then it will stay that way.  Mostly, putting things on these shelves in ivory and creams.

The old pair of snow skis are the only Christmas decorating I have done at the city house.  Simply haven't had time.  I'm back at the farm until next week while my husband hunts.  Gives me time to pack up more of my favorite things to take to the home in the city.

I do like your method of throwing the spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks. You may be busy for the rest of the winter. Enjoy!

Yes, it will take some time. At least as I am packing things up, I am also loading up lots of boxes and hauling stuff to Goodwill. Thank goodness for Goodwill. Lots of books, blankets and throws and old record albums from the sixties and seventies. That was the painful part, but then again, what good are they in a closet?

LOVE that bird plate.
And your orderly, colour co-ordinated favourite things.
Ours are much less tidy.

Yes Child, I too just loved it. When I got it, I looked at the maker's mark but wasn't familiar with it nor have I looked it up. All the woodwork and moulding in this house is bone and so far, I am decorating with that. I'm a light color person. That they sent me a gray bed instead of the ivory one, is why I am sending it back. That, and I looked through a Restoration Hardware catalog and found beds for half the price of the one I ordered. RH is notoriously expensive so why is the Anthropologie bed so high? I am not reordering the ivory one(:

I love your collection of lovely things - all displayed beautifully and set in a very elegant room.

Your bluebird plate is so lovely, I share your love for birds.....
Such a beautiful fireplace and shelves, your new home in the city is exquisite.
Look forward to seeing more favorite things Donna....

Thank you Elaine. I am trying to, how to say it, style it down as the former owner had it decorated very formal and I am more shabby chic or granny chic as my husband likes to call it.

Thank you Jo. The city house is so pretty and I just love it. I'm only taking the things I love up there; everything I don't, will be sold. The strangest thing about it is a lot of things I had at the farm, don't go in the city house. Since I haven't moved in so long, that was a surprise. I have a ton of favorite things - that's the problem.

I love shelving too. We've yet to use the fireplace but it's gas so I won't have to haul wood in and out. I have a study with bookshelves so that will be reserved for books. I did haul a crate of books to Goodwill yesterday. Woke up this morning and didn't realize it was Saturday. Guess I'll fill up another crate.

Donna, your city house looks very beautiful, and it will be so interesting to see how your own style enters into each room.

I've never seen a plate like your bird plate. I think it's quite lovely, and wonder if you remember where you first discovered it.

The skis look so at home by the fireplace, illustrating what I meant above about letting your style envelop your new home.

I am guessing that your local Goodwill shop is delighted with all your contributions.

Enjoy your week in the country. xo

Been filling up more containers for Goodwill today. I shall miss none of it. I just bought the plate a couple of weeks ago. Now that is a keeper. I wrote above how much at the farm doesn't go with the new house design. I never even thought about that.
