Windbag

I wonder if the marketers that made this ad thought about the word windbag?  I would look up the etymology of the word, but I don't care that much. I just loved the page and have kept it for years.

I've been rifling through all the detritus and junk that piles up around here, tidily I might add.  Anyway, after more than a year and a half wait, I got a booth at an Antique Mall in Tulsa.  Nate Berkus and some other couple with an HGTV show shopped there.  Movies shot in the state also shop there and that is why the wait is so long for a booth plus they get a lot of traffic.

I have had booths before and do not enjoy it, but I have to get rid of stuff that has accumulated over the years, as I have posted about here.

Which brings me back to the post. This scrap of paper is why I have too much stuff (though it doesn't take up much room tacked to a bulletin board - oh excuse me.  That is old fashioned.  I meant an idea board or a mood board.  I am a magpie you see. But I just loved this sentiment.

You might as well profit from it, and it as to be easier than EBay. I have a friend who has talked for years of decluttering of her memorabilia and collectibles going on antiques. Because they are personal they are more valuable to her than the open market. Now it must be done to accommodate her health. I told her to call Kiko, a major auction house in this state that comes in, organizes, sells and leaves. She's thinking.

Happy 2016, Donna! I am catching up with my visits, as I was missing from blogland most of December. I have always wished to have a booth in one of the antique malls or at the farmers market. I wish you success featuring and selling your memorabilia!

Dear Donna - congratulations on your booth at the antique mall. Wish I could be there to visit you and see your collection of treasures. You had me smiling about the idea board but I still call them bulletin boards. It certainly works for me. Well friend be sure to enjoy going through your memorabilia and have a great week. Hugs!

Yes, that will be the last necessary resort. Lots of things are too big and heavy to truck away. Like old farm stuff and antique buggies and wagons. It boggles the mind. At some point, I have to see a difference in the amount of stuff, but it hasn't happened yet.

I think they might be called mood boards too.

And hoping your new year is a good one too. I tend to purge every new year - out with the old and no in with the new. I am not planning on buying anything for this booth. Only going to sell what I have then I'm done. I am already trying to figure out how to move all the stuff by myself. I'm no spring chicken anymore.

You too Debbie. Booths are a lot of work. If you don't constantly move things around and add new stuff, they'll pass your booth by. And, it gets messed up so you are constantly arranging. It will be hard doing it when I am at the farm too. Oh well. Hope I get rid of lots.

Well, I still call them bulletin boards! lol A lady in town told me that a booth, at our local antique mall, was just what I needed. Hmmmm....I have held off on getting one, but the idea does intrigue me. I hope you have great success.

I too am a magpie. A collector of what my father described as 'ill-considered trifles'. Considered or not, I do love so many of them. Good luck with your booth. Hard, even if it is necessary.

You don't see post-it notes these days either. Remember when computer screens had them stuck all over?

Donna, I'm playing catch up on visiting blogs this morning before heading out for the late shift at work. I'd seen that picture of the green message house last night, but didn't have a chance to leave a comment. I think it is charming...surely you will be keeping it and not taking it to the antiques market?

I'll bet that the folks who will visit your stall are in for a treat. You are a very sensitive magpie with excellent taste. I've done some superficial de-cluttering around here in the past few days, but my heart was not in it. I must return to the project with more energy! At least I've not been doing any new year's acquiring, other than food.
I agree with you about bulletin boards. And...I still use post-it notes at home and at work. I have a "glue stick" sort of thing that lets me turn any scrap of paper (like cut up junk-mail envelopes) into post-it notes. I cannot decide whether that's a good or bad.

Happy New Year! xo

If it's local, it is a good way to make some extra income. They pay the taxes so you don't have to deal with all that rigamarole. The problem with mine is that it is in a different city and all the sale stuff is at the farm which I have to haul in my truck and it is going to rain two days this week. Glad everyone still calls them bulletin boards like me.

Thank you Child. I blame my Magpieism due to the fact after my mother died at age 40, my Dad got rid of all of my stuff and most of hers. Have nothing from family members so I got my own stuff. The moral here (for me) is that my kids don't want most of it and I have to get rid of it. I didn't think of that.

donna baker said...

I still have them stuck about my desk, but do toss them after I complete the task. I can't remember things so well anymore so I need the notes.

That is good Frances. Saving the planet. I am impressed. I do have a few things I would never sell, but if it doesn't go in the new house, it is going in the booth. I am trying to be relentless because I still can't tell that anything is gone. I really am not a hoarder, but have collected for 40 years and still have stuff left over from the antiquing days so it adds up. I used to have a trailer I hauled with my truck but sold it after I quit doing the shows, but regret that right now. I look like the Beverly Hillbillies in my truck. Happy new year to you too Frances.

I keep things too!

Started reading MTrain..

Good luck at that antique brocante!!

Oooh, I'm glad I can't get to your booth. I don't need any more temptations! Windbag seems pretty acurate for that very catchy ad. (I have drawers full of similar tear sheets etc. They are my files - for work and...stuff.) Good luck with sales, brave woman!!

The Weaver of Grass said...

I envy anyone like this Donna. I am afraid I am the exact opposite. I do not care to hoard things and endup throwing away something and then regretting it.

donna baker said...

Still haven't read M TRAIN. Hope it is as good as JUST KIDS. Thank you. Hope I get rid of it all - even if I have to put free on it.

donna baker said...

Desperate woman, Gesbi. I wish you could come too. I loved shopping the brocantes in Paris.

donna baker said...

Oh Pat, you said the H word. I'm really not a hoarder, just a collector. It is always the things we regret we didn't keep or didn't buy. Those are the things I regret. So you don't like sweets and don't hang on to stuff. Pretty good by my book; traits unfortunately I didn't inherit.

I like that sentiment too! Wishing you a happy new year.

I am not a hoarder but often regret getting rid of something like books that I want to read again. Good luck with your stall

donna baker said...

Yes Sarah, visually poetic.

donna baker said...

Yes, Elaine, it is the regrets that hurt the most. I've had quite a few, but I must be relentless in the purge. It'll sell or I'll mark it make me an offer.

I am a creator of tidy piles myself...and that is one of my New Years resolutions. More filing, purging, organizing! Thanks for coming by. Always appreciate your comments!

donna baker said...

Kirsten, hope you are successful at it. I love it when resolutions work. I have already changed my resolution to 'cutting back' on sweets. Love your posts too, but I guess you've been too busy to post much. Still waiting for more France posts.

Your scrap of paper is a keeper Donna and doesn't take up any room !!
Good luck with your booth .... it sounds as if it's in a good place and that you should sell a lot there ..... I just wish that I lived nearby { or even in the same country } then I could buy some of it !!!!! { even though I should be getting rid of a lot myself !!! } XXXX

donna baker said...

I guess it just amazes me the stuff that I hang on to. Most of the closets and drawers at the city house are nearly empty and I want to keep it that way. I think we must all reach the point of purging someday. It wasn't until the last few years that I started looking around and wondered how on earth was I going to clear out all this stuff. After 33 years, it is daunting.
