Scent Of Heaven

Who do you wear perfume for?  Yourself or others?  Ourselves, of course.

In the last couple of decades I have used Antonia's Flowers, with freesia the top note, Clinique's Aromatics body cream and Coco Mademoiselle.  The scent I am most often asked about, by men and women, is Aromatics.  I wear the cream as the perfume just seems too strong.

The perfume counter lady at Sak's says that I should always wear the Aromatics as the ph of my skin...

Well, I thought about it and I don't wear perfume for others.  I wear it because I like it - for my sensory pleasure.  I got this set of Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb for Christmas and just love it.  Like a dog rolling in stink, this is my stink and I'm rolling in it.  I'm usually not around many people so I'll not overwhelm them with my perfume.

Have not smelt it, so really can't comment Donna, although I do know that perfume smells different on different people, so perhaps this is just your scent. I tend not to wear it - the last lot I bought was Elizabeth Arden's Fifth Avenue.

I definitely wear it for me.
Usually Anais Anais by Cacherel

You are right Pat. Perfume does smell different on others, as the lady tried to point out with Aromatics. I just happen to like Flowerbomb for the present. I can't tell you how many bottles I've purchased and then got home and could't stand it.

That's an oldie goldie Child. So is Weaver's. They put something in today's perfumes. I don't know what it is, but it all has a certain smell to it that I'm not fond of. Synthetic, chemically, I can't pinpoint it.

I have to be careful with perfume as it makes me sneeze - I do have a preference for Coco mademoiselle though and have a lovely large bottle that I was bought last Christmas. I don't actually apply it but spray it into the air and walk through it.

I love that scent. It is light and I've heard of that trick. I like all the shower gels, shampoos, creams and powders too. One, Donna Karan's Cashmere Mist, even has a hair spray. I like that one too. Forgot about it.

Oh Donna, I do love the scent of freesias! Most of the scents I've loved and used over the years have had something similar in their message. Biba (Yes, that Biba!) was one, then Chloe, Idadora, Ysatis, and others. However, since it was introduced to me by a beautiful tiny sample bottle during its debut, my scent choice has been 24 Faubourg by Hermes. We get along together well, and I find it subtle enough. Folks I embrace also seem to like it.

Now I hope that my chemistry will continue to agree with 24's.

I am not familiar with this fragrance, but you are so right. We really wear perfume for ourselves.

Never have smelled it, but next time I go to Sak's, I will. They have so many different kinds, it is crazy. The little jar of coffee beans really works to help you keep smelling different ones. I guess you prove her point about the skin ph thing.

Yes Michelle. I'll keep wearing the Aromatics, but Flowerbomb too. It was their first fragrance, but they now have a newer one out.

I have worn a rose fragrance for over 40 years. Not to sweet just like a single rose. I wear it for me.

cheers, parsnip

I like body oils from my local shop, Body Time, over in Berkeley. I usually wear amber or cucumber oil.

The 'fancy stuff' for me would be almost anything by Guerlain. I especially like their Herba Fresca.

And, yes, like you I wear these scents for me!

I love rose and there are many many new rose scents at the perfume counter. I haven't found the right one yet.

Have never smelled Guerlain's Herba Fresca. Would love to.

I don't wear perfume or cologne and hate scented products. My husband was really bad about buying me presents and I gave him a hard time about it so one year for the xmas season he bought me some perfume. really? perfume? I always did like my mother's cologne she wore when I was a little kid...White Shoulders.

I remember that Ellen. My husband doesn't wear cologne and it makes it hard when gift time comes around. I love scents (no Estee Lauder though) and burn candles and have many diffusers etc. Just love to smell stuff.

Donna, my go to fragrance for years was Nina Ricci's L'Air du Temps (she was my friend's Aunt - she spent childhood Summer holidays with Madame Nina in Paris, and brought me samples!). I enjoyed Elizabeth Arden's Red Door during my working days. Now I don't bother with perfume, prefer lighter eau de toilette - my two favorites are L'Occitane's Vervaine (Lemon Verbena), and Dior's beautiful Escale à Portofino which is now so hard to find but Nordstrom did - I love that company!

These are what I enjoy spraying in a gentle mist around me - and at least hubby, and my 11 year neighbor, say I always smell divine, lol!

Well, Monique, I'd love to smell those. I've heard of Thiery Mugler's Angel, if that is the same one. Of course I remember Ciara. I wore Chanel 5 and Shalimar when I was younger. I just love scents. Rose, violets, freesia. My favorites. But, I like patchouli and sandalwood too.

Ooh la la. That would be heaven on holiday in Paris with a perfumer. I too prefer eau de toilette. I love many scents.
