Never Saw Anything Like It

I never watch the Grammys anymore - not since rap became de rigueur.  Noise, verbiage with a beat, usually objectionable, but not music.  I was busy doing things around the house and didn't have time to sit in front of the television, so listened and occasionally looked at the TV.  Saw that this was coming and watched Lady Gaga's tribute to David Bowie.  I don't know too much about GaGa, nor know many of her songs and have only seen snippets of her performances.

Unbelievable.  An understatement.  There are artists - and then there is Lady Gaga.  I've never seen anything like it.  There should be another word for her performance and talent.  It was something to behold on the big screen. There is another video of her preparing, scoring, practicing, etc. for this performance that is also very interesting.

Donna, I've sort of drifted away from the Grammys over the years, but will always watch the show if Lady Gaga is a performer. Her tribute to David Bowie was to my eyes and ears the highlight of the show.

I am always looking forward to seeing what she will do next.

Good Morning, OK Girl!

Without my glasses, the thumbnail on my sidebar looked vaguely like Elvis in Warpaint, but your ringing endorsement will send me over to watch the recording from last night. Don't you just LOVE being able to skip blithely past commercials and other banal or objectionable stuff, and sorta SKIM the show, so to speak? Sometimes I'm taken back to my Summer youth, for it occasionally feels like skipping along on the slightly-bumpy wake of a Chris-Craft, with that old Evinrude up in the high twenties, as my skis skip and my ponytail whips in the wind. I'll take my lunch over and have a look in an hour or so, and in this case, I'd imagine I could condense the entire watchable content into a nice soft Paminna Cheese sandwich and Dr. Pepper, don't you think?)

Thank you for mentioning this---I hope you are staying warm and well.

A performance for the ages Frances. I wanted to see Bruno Mars perform Uptown Funk but didn't, and I got to see Alabama Shakes. She is also one to watch - really talented.

I don't either Ellen, not even the Academy Awards.

Hope you can watch the preparation piece too; it was very interesting. Warm here today, but I'm glad I'm not slim, for I'd blow away ;) I used to ski too, once upon a time. I could get up every time. Last time I tried, I couldn't get up, didn't have the upper body strength anymore. Now just a memory.

Oh wow! thanks for sharing this as we didn't watch the Grammy's - or any awards shows - and Bob and I really found this great! Lady Ga-Ga is quite amazing in her performances apparently - and a colorful character. Surprising how she comes across almost larger than life when she is such a tiny woman actually!

Thanks for your kind comment today Donna - I'm no photography expert but do enjoy playing with my photos when I have time.

Hope things are going OK for you dear - I'm concerned and send warm thoughts and hugs.
Mary -

I only recently began paying attention to Lady GaGa. What a woman and a singer.

I don't really go in for that sort of thing Donna, but she certainly seems to put in a huge amount of groundwork.

She is truly a talented person. A great tribute to Bowie.

I don't do the Grammies either.
And have never warmed to Lady Gaga. This clip made me come closer than I ever have before. Such a lot of work. And talent. From her, and everyone involved. Thank you.
Still prefer Bowie though.

Thank you dear Mary. Should know any day now.

Saw a thing on 60 Minutes about her a few years ago and have heard bits and pieces since then, but I just thought this was out there.

Yes, Pat. A true artist.

donna baker said...

I thought so too Michelle.

He was from my generation, but I think Gaga has got it all. Just love multi-talented artists.

It was just such an art performance instead of just singing. I don't watch awards shows anymore. I don't know who most of them are.

Her tribute was probably the most intriguing and watchable portion of the show. Although I did dig Jackson Browne singing with the (remaining) Eagles.

I love her. She is an amazing musician and can sing anything. My favorite was a "simple" version of "Born this Way and edge of Glory" she did in Rome for Europride 2011 at 5:50. So amazing... especially the second song. If anyone has doubt about her talent they should check this out ... ;) (I do love her "big" performance art pieces too.)

Didn't see him Bea, but I used to be a fan of his songs.

Lucinda, thank you. I'll go look right now. I have heard of those two songs so maybe I know more about her than I thought. I think she has incredible talent. Like I said, very few have it all like Gaga.

Just watched it and it was beautiful. My daughter saw her in concert and is a big fan. I'm a fan now too. I am not easily impressed, but I am with Lady GaGa.
