Trouble In Paradise

GIVE ME EVERY LAST STINKING CENT YOU HAVE!!!!!

As tax day draws nigh, those of us whom support the masses, get our tax forms - books really as there are more than 6500 tax codes - ready to send our hard earned money to an unfair and gluttonous, tax wasting government that is in free fall if you've been following the upcoming election spectacle.

No wonder the nuts have come out.  People are sick and tired of the waste and supporting all those whom would rather live off the handouts than work.  Generations have been spawned that live off the taxpayers/government.

And, here is something for thought.  Your entire working career, your check is taxed, insurance withdrawn, social security deducted, etc.  There usually isn't enough left of that check to live on so more and more people work more than one job to make ends meet.

Naive that we were, we didn't know that once you start getting your social security check that you've payed toward your entire working life,  the government taxes it again and deducts their cut and it is the same with Medicare.  They tax it and take a cut of it and in our state, they are going to cut benefits even more.  By 25%.  Most doctors won't be able to accept Medicare anymore and they are talking about hospitals and nursing homes closing.  Child services will be slashed.

I can't think of anything sadder than the elderly having to work two jobs to be able to live off the paltry check they end up with.  But, don't let the government know you are working extra jobs as they'll deduct even more from Social Security checks. And good luck finding a doctor that will accept Medicare as payment.

What is to come of it all?

With regard to the pheasant chicks Donna. There may be more than one father, and dads play no part in the upbringing (unlike most birds.) Mother usually keeps all the chicks fairly close to the nest site for a couple of days (this nest is in a walled garden so they are relatively safe) but then moves off into the fields because predators discover the nest and broken eggs and begin to look for the babies.

Sigh.
Governments seem to be the same the world over. It doesn't matter who you vote for, a politician is elected.

Yes Child, the line for the good ones gets shorter and shorter.

Pat thank you. I see lots of different birds and waterfowl that have both parents helping bring their babes up. We have a bird in OK, a plover called the Killdeer, that both parents help with and the babies have to be up and running right after birth.

I am so tired of all of this. Teachers in Kentucky (me) do not get Social Security. They also don't want us to have our spouse's benefits after they die. Tiresome!

donna baker said...

OMG Michelle. That is unbelievable. I better check into it as our state's income is oil/gas based and with the falling prices everyone is in dire need. State school heads are talking of closing schools and four day weeks. I haven't heard the word, but I think we're in a recession or worse. But, that is just wrong about SS for teachers and spousal benefits. It is not enough to live on anyway, but still a necessity.

Heaven only knows! Everything is such a stinking mess, it just makes me sick... ah-oh, better NOT get sick. I cannot believe they tax the S.S. check, it is just maddening. And still, people continue to pour over our borders, even though we can't afford to pay for those living here already. It makes you nervous about the future and worried about the present. I think governments are just committing suicide, and taking all of us along.

That or just printing more money to calm the masses. We were so surprised about the SS checks and Medicare payments. Didn't know beforehand about them taxing and charging monthly for those. Can't imagine what those who have no other means do to make those paltry checks stretch.

yes, tax time. people don't want to pay taxes but they want all the services taxes pay for. as for government waste, the lion's share of your tax dollars go to subsidies of corporations making record profits who also don't pay taxes thanks to our tax code and to the war machine. the amount of your taxes that goes to food assistance or housing assistance (and most recipients of that actually do work but you can't live on minimum wage) is a pittance, about $36 a year if you make around $50K. I'd much rather my taxes go to feed the hungry and shelter the poor than to make one more bomb or go in the pocket of a CEO making millions.

Ahh, Donna, April tax day does help focus the mind, particularly in big election years when there are so many words swirling around.

Playing by the rules is an interesting concept. Having now known folks from many generations during my lengthening life has given me a certain cynical view that I try with difficulty to balance with some optimism...and a love of nature.

Many changes have entered into our lives in the past decade, as increasing speed, without any of us actually voting for such changes. Perhaps it's always been like this, but I do wonder.

Guess it gets slipped in under the stacks of paper laws and bills. It does seem like it is out of our hands now.

So much waste Ellen. Fifty percent of all people applying for disability are malingering (faking). The ones who find a lawyer to take their case often get on the roles. Very few get caught and held to account for it.

You have no idea how this makes me feel---it's just the loveliest thing I can think of right now. THANK YOU!

Oh My Goodness you said so much that I agree on.
Hillarys two ad for Arizona was all that she was going to GIVE all the Hispanics but not one word of help for the Native people, Veterans, Elderly American who can only pick their med or food or rent. I was so angry ! No wonder so many people, we pay all the taxes and no help.

cheers, parsnip

it's still a pittance compared to the amount of our taxes that go for corporate subsidies and the waste in the defense department...billions on planes that never get used for example and tanks the generals don't want. I'm curious, where do you get the statistic that 50% of people on disability are fakers? Even if that's true, and I'm not convinced, I would still rather my tax money go to food and housing assistance than one child go hungry or homeless or without health care or education. Your taxes would decrease dramatically if the government would get rid of corporate subsidies for companies making record profits. the real thieves are the CEOs and board members who won't pay a living wage and then the government rewards them for it. remember the bank bailouts? the CEOs still got their millions in annual salary and bonuses and the board members still got their dividends. who paid for that? you did. we did. that is what you should be angry about. not the measly $36 a year for food assistance.

Guess we all have our own grievances. I do feel greatly for the children and elderly. Our farm is in a poor, uneducated part of the state and I see it on a daily basis. Too many welfare cheats so it really grates on me. The disability statistic is from my husband's own practice and published reportage. He's been testing/evaluating people trying to get workman's comp and disability for more than 25 years. The resulting statistic of 50% malingering is a fact and not just in our state. Not all the fakers will get benefits, but many will.

It is a mess. The elderly having to choose what to go without after working so hard their entire lives then have their Medicare slashed and some have to live off those SS checks. And the ripple effects just boggle the mind. Closing hospitals, nursing homes and schools? Where is the end?
