VOTE

I voted today.  I've never been so affected by a campaign before.

If you think this is just about America, it is not.  One only has to think of FDR to know this concerns the whole world [our Earth].

I voted by absentee ballot.  I had planned to go back to the farm next Tuesday, but my husband is going to have a surgical procedure Monday and can't travel for 24 hours.  I've been messing with this thing all week, calling here and there.  The ballot arrived with a long list of do's and don'ts; I had to go find a notary republic to notarize the thing before I mailed it.  I was going to overnight it, but the post office assured me it would arrive at the County Election Board by Monday.

God help us.

There was a line WAY around the block of the municipal building on the way to Sweetpea's piano lesson yesterday. Early voters, standing there chatting in the long queue. And on the way, a great crowd of women waving signs and banners from a huge overpass, with passing car horns blaring their opinions (hard to tell yea from nay from a horn blat).

I woke wondering about which change January will hold, and what implications and effect in the times to come.

Hope you're having a lovely NOVEMBER!

It's definitely one of those...but I felt that way about our last presidential election. Truth. I just don't get it, America. Seriously get your eyes off the TV and start making smart decisions! *eats cheese*

I vote a mail in ballot which is now easier for me.

cheers, parsnip

Hope yours' is excellent too Rachel. I'd like to come to your house to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Lots of early voters here too, I'm told. We'll see who benefits from that.

Hope your November is starting out well. It has gotten down into the seventies here which is a nice relief from the high 80's. Means I'll have to start getting in between clothes out.

Nice to meet you Crystal and I've had to turn off the tv too. It all makes me sick. I start having palpitations just thinking about it.

It was fine except for the notary thing. I'm going to have to change my voting address and hopefully get that squared away after the first of the year.

Your last line I would guess sums up how most Americans are feeling at the oment Donna. The whole world is in turmoil isn't it?

Yes Pat. It is definitely a different time and on a global level now. One of my favorite lines in literature is from Alexander Pope's ESSAY ON MAN. It goes something like this, "we are all part of the chain, whereby one part is broken, the whole will fall."

I was in a waiting room last Wednesday, chatting with a woman I have become comfortable with over these last few months. I was telling her I love the woman who bought my house because I came over the rise and saw her Hillary sign in the yard. A tall, lean woman came through the door in the middle of the conversation and had the gist of it before she sat down. There was no doubting her inclination; Hillary buttons on hat, bandanna and sweatshirt. She announced she had worked for Hillary for the entire year, doing every job necessary, and now was knocking on doors to get out the vote. I asked if she knocked on doors with Trump signs. Of course she did. She has been run off, cursed off and once even sent packing on the end of a gun if a man answered the door. If a woman answered, they were fifty percent like their husbands, but the other fifty percent looked over their shoulders and listened to her tell them they could lie to their husband about their vote, and practice it if they must. The last thing she whispered to them was, "Honey, if you vote Trump you are giving away your vagina."

Sigh.
The whole world is watching. Anxiously.
Having discovered pre-polling I vote early. Always.

I love that you had that conversation. I never wore my campaign button nor put my bumper sticker on my truck, afraid that it would be damaged. Sad in that civility is all but dead in our country. My neighbor across the street, a flight attendant, has had two Trump signs in her yard for a couple of months and no one has bothered them or her house. That speaks volumes to me.

Yes, I think I will try to vote early from now on, Child.

I'm going to vote, but not till I have to, it's just too sickening.

donna baker said...

I totally understand. Two and a half years of the worst campaign in memory. Too much.

My polling place is in an elementary school just around the corner from where I live. I always look forward to voting there, not just because the Parent-Teacher Organization usually holds a bake sale in the hallway.

I like to get a feel for whether or not there is a good-sized turnout, whether the voting seems orderly, and so forth.

Best wishes to your husband with regard to his surgery. Best wishes to all of us as the votes get counted Tuesday night. xo

Sounds quaint and sweet to hear you tell of voting and in NYC where you'd think it would take hours of waiting in lines. I won't be able to find out until Wednesday morning. I just can't bear it. Thank you Frances for your kind thought.

I'm waiting until Tuesday to vote and will be SO GLAD when it's all over. To think I became a naturalized American some years back just so I could vote, but since then the choices have been horrendous - and this time around even more so. Where are the great leaders we need?Your sentence at the end of this post is the one running around in my head 24/7. It's all quite frightening and I'm afraid this country will suffer no matter who becomes President!

You needed a notary? I find it so strange that all states do their own thing with regard to voting. I could have just dropped my absentee ballot into the mail sans stamp and have been done with it, but I chose a hand delivery method. What a pain that you all have to do that extra step with notarization.

I don't think I've ever felt as affected either. The election is not a 'coin toss'. The candidates are very different from one another in a variety of ways.

I quote Joanne's quote: "Honey, if you vote Trump you are giving away your vagina." This thought has been my take-away since Drumpf started his run.

I think you are right Mary. Our political system needs a change in that one party can't hold the other party 'prisoner' with gridlock being the outcome. And, it keeps on happening. I'm for term limits now. Throw the bums and their special interests out. That, and I think the people have changed. Too many don't know what civility is anymore.

donna baker said...

It is beyond my comprehension Bea. He is an embarrassment to our nation. Zero redeeming qualities. Less than zero.

In Arizona (even though the liberals hate us) you can apply for a mail in ballot. None of all the stuff you had to do.
So glad the high court threw out the people picking up mail in ballots. I think that is just another way for vote fraud here in Arizona.

donna baker said...

Isn't that something. I would think it would be a federal thing and everyone would have to do the same things on ballots. I'm waiting to just vote online. I don't understand why they can't work that out.
