Wearable Art Redux

As per some of your requests, here are a few of the other necklaces I found at the farm.  It was good to see what I had left as I noticed something.  A lot of the ones that sold were paintings strung with pearls.  All different sizes and colors.  There were none left. This one was a favorite - the one in jade I told you about.

When my son was young, I always bought him red boots to wear.  They were the cutest.  I did a series of red boot paintings.  Can't find red ones anymore for the grandkids.

All the little bird nests sold except for this one.  I liked the sunset with the evening star.

At the clasps of some necklaces, I added little silver charms.  The little cowboy hat went on a boot painting, etc.

It is funny about the jewelry.  Coming from a woman that doesn't wear any jewelry except a pair of earrings - studs for winter and a little gold disc for summer.  I like it on others, but just would feel weird wearing jewelry.  Another quirk.

And finally, for those of you that aren't interested in jewelry (and I promise never to speak of it again) here is what's going to the booth today. My original copy of Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones.  I'm a Stone's girl instead of the Beatles, whatever that says about me.

On the whole I am not a jewellry wearer either, apart from three rings which I wear quite often and all of which are really of sentimental value.

Glad to know you understand the jewelry thing. Most family and friends wear many rings and bracelets way up the arm with necklaces, etc. Just can't do it.

Your photos are lovely Donna..

well it's funny I have lots of earrings..all kinds..but my holes are low..so pierced dangles..not great..I have a beautiful antique gold pair with natural pearls..screw on..delicate..dangle..can show you..scared of losing them..my great aunts..so stud pearls every day for me..I even have little lockets..and ceramic ones..remember the vintage ones?I don't wear those.Little bouquets i like to look at..

there are a few longer ones I modified.. cut of the pins..and replaced with clips..once you are used to pierced though..clips can make
your head pound;)

Yes into bracelets and necklaces..all kinds..from pearls..I even garden in them..to the big statement ones..to many at once..I just love that.
For fun..
I love the beads you have used on them..the little bouquet is gone?

3 rings on me too..well 4 ..wedding ring..my mom's .. wedding man's band..oldoldold..an enamel on copper..now silver floral..wide band..and last week the other ring I always wore..broke..my baby spoon ring.I never take my rings off.On my fingers for 43 yrs.The baby spoon since i was 17.
I don't go up the arm..just 3/4 lol;)
Still love lockets..oy..I am blabbing.

OMG I can't believe I wrote all that..get a cup of tea.

Monique, you made me laugh. I know many who wear all the jewelry I'd think you could wear, so I definitely understand. My husband doesn't realize how good he got off with me not liking jewels - the big ones. I lusted after a turquoise Van Cleef and Arpels Alhambra necklace, but then thought who would pay that much and why would I want it anyway? I do remember you met the Stones, but never got to hear the particulars. I'm all ears and email me pictures of your jewelry. I'd love that.

I quit wearing rings when I fell down the stairs, but my ring caught in the banister. I had to get the ring cut off. The very last time I wore earrings was at my daughter's wedding sixteen years ago. My younger daughter so admired the earrings I'd bought for the occasion, I took them out and gave them to her. They were too cool. Left and right, and the twisted wire screwed around and around. She probably left them in an abandoned storage unit.

And I loved hearing it all.

A woman after my own heart Joanne, now if I can just start exercising like you.

I do wear earrings. And have a lot of them. Other jewellery? Very, very rarely.
Love your work though. Awe and wonder.

I'm not much for personal ornament. I have a lot of jewelry but I rarely wear any. diamond studs in my ears for day to day.

Love them all, but the tree with jade is my favorite as well. I wear minimal jewelry as a rule, but on occasion like to add a fun piece to dress up an outfit. I make long necklaces with pearls and a tassel on the end. I shared a craft booth with a friend at a folk festival a few years ago and sold quite a few. Selling my own work tends to make me anxious. Always afraid the might not hold up, etc.. The Artist's Lament

Sweet Child, thank you.

I don't wear makeup either. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty cheap and don't go to the hairdresser either. I do like a Saks fix once in a while.

donna baker said...

I know exactly what you speak of Ry. And, I'm my own worst critic.

Minimal jewelry here, though I have a few good pieces, but rarely wear them.

Necklace, brooch, rings, the chunkier the better, pile 'em on! Nothing is especially valuable. I wear a necklace almost every day. I like them short and often have them shortened by the maker to sit comfortably close to the nape of the neck so that they don't bang about. I sometimes buy a ring or a necklace while on holiday. I've got jewellery from my mother and grandmother and love the memories attached to all the pieces that I've got.

Your necklaces are just beautiful Donna, I'm loving all especially the bird nest!

I do have a lot of jewelry, some much loved as they were gifts so have sentimental value more than monetary, others are lovely pieces, mostly silver, made by artistic friends over the years. The remainder is costume jewelry I've bought just for fun and travel. I've been editing again lately though, just had too much. My goal is to keep a few special pieces, and hope for a pair of substantial diamond studs (I'm tall so tiny ones just won't work, haha!) which are always beautiful and can be worn anywhere at anytime!
My most loved piece is the ring which Sir Winston Churchill's daughter Sarah gave to my mother as a friendship gift when they were in the Royal Air Force together during WW2. It's like a seal with the young Queen Victoria's head - a big conversation piece always when I wear it.

Happy day dear friend - Mary

donna baker said...

I wish I had a few more good pieces. My girls are fighting over a diamond and ruby ring that was my mom's and I don't know what to do. I'd like to have another few to leave to my granddaughters.

donna baker said...

Sounds beautiful Rosemary.

donna baker said...

Mary, you win. That is s exciting to own a piece of history. It all sounds beautiful. I wear diamond studs in winter and little ones, well, I'm not fond of the little ones. As a matter of fact, that's a good reason to get some bigger ones. I'll start getting some pieces for my granddaughters that way;) Happy days to you too Mary.

Oh my gosh, Donna, those are beautiful. You are so talented.

Sandra, thank you so much. It's nice to get a pat on the back.

donna baker said...

And I forgot to say thank you very much.

Donna, it's a treat to see those necklaces! I like the miniature paintings very much, particularly the ones with the little red boots.

I've gotten quite lazy about wearing jewelry. After losing a gold bangle during my retail days I sort of went minimal. Just my watch and pearl earrings. Every now and then I will change up the earrings to some of my favorite Ted Muehling, but mostly just keep the jewels in their boxes.

Donna, adore your necklaces. The tiny paintings are fabulous and I love the Jade one with the tree painting.
I would pick this one over the pearls.
By the way looking at your side bar I love your nest. I used to weave nests for my yard when I lived in Laguna Beach. Love your white one. I used all kind of grasses and twigs and my recycled paper.

So talented you are.
cheers, parsnip

Thank you Frances. The little boots on the left surprised me. I had them on a dresser with a candle, moon outside the window and mirror reflecting the boots. I didn't remember all that detail. I've been looking for a small jewelry box that is clear with different little drawers and cubbies, but can't find one small enough for my little collection. Hopefully I will find one someday as now everything is in little bags scattered everywhere. I don't know of Ted Muehling. I'd love to see them.

Thank you Gayle. I have been thinking about the Ham and hope he is improving. I have this little Japanese doll I'd like to send you a picture of. I heard once they were called wedding dolls, but I'm not sure. It is very old.

Oh, MY!! The baby boots and the perfect wind-blown bonsai---how you capture all the shapes and shadows, especially with that mouse-hair brush---that's beyond me. Thinking SMALL is a great gift in this case, for they are simply charming in their Lilliput proportions.

And the JADE--what a lovely thing, jade. The beads, unlike always warm pearls, seem always to be cool to the touch, aloof and royal in their round gleam.

And you can continue to explore your art closets and cupboards, your what-nots and bibelot cases and etageres, turning out their contents as long as you have time and patience---they're a source of great treasure and interest. With your taste and eye for the unusual and wonderful, I think we'd all be agog for the contents of your purse.

Rachel, you are so kind. I do have many caches of things I've forgotten about. I think I have tried nearly every medium except for pastels and glassblowing/making. Wanted to try both but haven't. Not a lot of places to learn on the farm, so with most all of my stuff, it is self-taught. The computer must be filled with information, but it and I have a terrible relationship.

Ooh, ooh! I just got a close up of the bird's nest. LOVE IT. R u going to put these on your etsy site?
Have a great Sunday.

donna baker said...

I don't sell much on the etsy site. I did have more sales when I was selling antiques, but it was annoying driving back and forth to town to mail packages when I was at the farm. Thank you Sandra.

Yowza! Original copy?! That must go for a pretty penny. Cool that you have it.

The miniature portraits are lovely. Thank you for showing us more. The nest with eggs & the sunset really speak to me.
