Monday Monday

Monday morning.  Don't feel like spraying for ants and weeding, nor going to the antique booth.  So what to do?  Well, I still have to do all those things and more, but I sit on the porch reading Tesla's theories about the ether and magnetic forces.  More about that later.  But, I must have ADH because the squirrels and baby birds and ducks, goslings and ducklings are just too cute.

Then, I spy a large water turtle in the upper left corner of the picture next to the porch corner (feel free to fiddle with the picture as I just don't know how to on my iPhone or computer.) The neighbors don't garden much and are putting in a new bed next to their porch.  Mrs. Turtle has other ideas.  She is working hard to dig out her nest to lay a clutch of eggs.  I can't concentrate and I am getting whiplash from trying to read and watch her, afraid I'll miss the big moment (I did.)

She moved down the slope slower than I've ever seen a turtle move.  Hard work I guess.  I surmise she had been covering them up.  She got down to the lake finally and plopped in the water.

Tesla said the past and future are only metaphors; that there is only the present.  Yet, these eggs are going to hatch in the future (small chance since I'm betting the neighbor will dig them up) and this post will be in the past.  Go figure.

And, all the creatures are craning their necks and talking or hanging off the fence, waiting for their morning rations. So off to start this metaphoric day.

I would enjoy having so much wildlife so close to the porch, my husband however would not. He's the one commissioned with the gardening and landscaping duties and it would drive him crazy constantly cleaning up the mess.
Oh well, it looks like a very serene and peaceful setting, one to enjoy :)

I need to go away and get my head round this past, present and future thing.

I had to put netting over my goldfish pond to keep the ducks from swimming in it and so far it has worked though it looks ugly. They were in the neighbor's yard so no mess. My waterfowl stay in my lower garden which is completely overgrown with flowers and plants so I don't mind them fertilizing it.

I concur Pat. I need a copy of Tesla For Dummies. He was supposedly brighter than Einstein though 'crazy smart'.

That is unique the turtle chose that spot, but fun to watch

Oh how wondrous. Turtles and geese. It's like you live in a park.

Yes, they just put the dirt in last weekend. We have three farm ponds and I used to feed the turtles and snapping turtles. They have extremely good eyesight (I tried to hide from them while I'd sit far away in the Polaris and they always saw me) and perhaps she was watching. Can't imagine how she found that freshly dug earth.

Always have loved to be outdoors and watching.

This is the way I should spent my Monday, how very relaxing.

Still wildlife in the city, so I spend much time outside. This will change when summer weather hits. It is too hot to go out during the day for very long.

well, Tesla is right in that we cannot visit the past so it no longer exists and we cannot visit the future as it doesn't exist yet. and if you believe in reincarnation, some say that our lives are not sequential but happening simultaneously. how's that for a mind bender?

Parallel universes? Hologram universe? As I said, I need Tesla For Dummies booklet.

I would like this kind of scenery! Maybe the neighbor won't bother the nest.

donna baker said...

Hope not. I sent the pic to them and told them where she laid them.

Beats me why your neighbor would not want bitty turtles hatching on the property... I would! You've got a wonderful parade of creatures before you, no wonder you can't concentrate on a book.

I don't think I could concentrate on a page turner outside. They are going to put their house on the market and are trying to spruce it up. Hope they'll plant out a little farther.

I love the way the duck is walking away in the first picture as if to say, "Messing about in the garden? Not me!"

I've really enjoyed these photos. Thanks for sharing, Donna.

Actually Rosemary, he was coming over to see if I had food for him. He lived on the lake before I moved here.

What excitement in your back garden. This type of entertainment does not happen often and what a blessing when it does.
Enjoy your weekend

Me too. Terrible weather. My baby sparrows flew the nest last night during a terrible storm. I though I saw the mom and dad feeding them in the trees.

donna baker said...

Always Helen. Bullfrogs, catfish, geese and ducks, turtles and squirrels looking in the windows waiting for their nuts. And, many birds to watch. Hope your weekend is good.

The lower garden next to the lake is much like an English garden in that it is planted fully within a square inch. Can't wait to see it in a week or so when all the phlox and echinacea blossom. The lilies are in their glory right now.

Is the patchy-looking bird in the top photo a duck-goose? ;)

donna baker said...

Bea, he's one of three ducks that have been here longer than I have. It is a tough life for creatures in nature.
