Old Time Recipes

It is slow going, but there are some good ones to come.  Jeanetta started with Dips and Appetizers and if I get out of order, well, I will get it mixed up.  These punches were probably made for weddings and anniversaries.  I seriously doubt old Hubert ever tasted likker'.

The old hand-written recipes are so often a treat. As are old cook books (particularly those with stains and drips on much used recipes). I hope you are recovering well.

The strawberry-lemonade drink does sound tasty!

Re what Elephant said above about stained favourite recipes in books, I used to look at the car maintenance manuals (if they had one) and look for the most oil-stained page. Very informative.

Hello Donna, from a very hot and humid NYC. This summer is a doozie! Even though I have become a very lazy bloggers, I did want you to know that I do think of you and yours. Seems as if "real life" stuff has been usurping hours that once belonged to blogging. The instant part of Instagram has its advantages... I love seeing these old recipes. xo

My Mum had lots of hand written recipes and my sister and I have made a few ....... they are much older than yours and probably, not so tasty ! Lots of my Mum's and Grandmothers were written down in the war years so are a bit meagre but they were both really good cooks and made some lovely recipes. Hope that you are recovering well Donna and that you are well on the way to being back to 100% ...... maybe some of those recipes will help with your recovery !!! XXXX

This one has a few stains. I am thank you.

I thought that too. Strawberries grow well in that area.

I have some recipes that are nearly unreadable. Messy.

Good Jo. It will be worth it for Laura. I personally like the casseroles, first, because I rarely make them and second, because we usually got them at the pot lucks, which I remember were very good.

I bet there will be some you'd like. Do they have air conditioning in the apartments in NYC? I know it has been unseasonable. It has been cooler here this summer which is a rarity. Glad to hear from you.

I need to clean house instead of cook Jackie. I have seen some old recipes that call for a knob of butter and I think a few of these recipes have ingredients that aren't on the shelves anymore. I haven't wanted to eat - the best part of this affair.

The strawberry lemonade looks good:) Take care Miss Donna:)

Yes, but not in my apartment. I rely on cross ventilation and a trusty fan. This summer's heat span is unusually long... xo

my sister has our aunt's handwritten recipes. maybe even our grandmother's. I'll have to ask her about it. I know I have or have had copies of some of them.

Sounds wonderful on a hot day. I will.

Need to ask before you put it off too long. After cooking for forty years, I don't anymore, but I still have recipes. And, amazingly, I taught myself using recipes.
