My birthday and Christmas come close to each other. My family has a hard time figuring out what to buy me. Unless I specify what I want, well... I get quite a few stinkers. I only asked for two things. I love this salt shaker snow globe from Anthropologie. It was a gift to myself.
I am not like most folk/women. No Manolo's or Jimmy Choo's for me. PS ~ stick doesn't work. Yes it does.
Anyone want a bung? It goes in a hole.

Not sure how I'll use this. Hmmm. Perhaps I'll climb a tree and peer down a knothole. Ideas? Maybe I can sneak up on someone around a corner and watch them unawares.
Oh, I love this medical cabinet from ikea. Trouble is, I need another one and it cost almost as much to ship as the item did. So, do I drive to Dallas and pick up another or just pay the damn shipping?
I got other things I love and some stinkers too. I don't wear jewelry, except for small earrings, so I was happy with these.

What a charming, eclectic ensemble of presents! I could really enjoy all of those, I think---we even have a cask, and the snow globe is particularly ingenious.
Hope you haven't been frozen shut as we have---city in emergency for several days, with NO TRAFFIC. It felt so SILENT, and we just cocooned (or, as my Sis and I used to say, "We SOGGED").

PS I've been meaning to ask---I just cannot get my opticals straight when looking at the picture called Paris Church. What is that---it surely cannot be stairs, but you're looking down (or is it up?) into the window. The shading looks almost like abalone shell, and I'm just lost here.

Rachel, I was in the oldest church in Paris, Ste. Germain des Pres, and in the entrance, there was this huge silver lined shell holding water (holy, I guess) and it reflected one of the church windows. Type in St. Germain des Pres in the upper left corner and see if it comes up. Oh, and you should have seen some of my gifts. Let's just say, I am ready for the appocalypse. (sic)

I'm quite puzzled about the Vermont weather stick... but the snow globe, bird whistle and bung, yeah, that all makes sense. I only wear earrings and couldn't give a hang for jewelry, I guess I am not the only oddball woman out there! Just read your hilarious post below this one, and replied.... at least I think I did....
Thank you Dear Dottie. Jeri, I am glad to know another woman that doesn't wear or covet jewelry. I don't know why, but I tried to explain, that to me, it would feel just like wearing bright red lipstick. Not going to happen. I do think it is beautiful, but would prefer looking at a large natural stone or fossils, things like that.
Dear Donna - first of all Happy Birthday late and hope your holidays were wonderful. As for gifts...I think the salt and pepper shakers and snow globe are the best. The video surveillance makes me smile...somehow I just can't picture you using it but just maybe you will be able to sneak around and capture someone lurking in the bushes (lol) - all and all it is the thought that counts! I LOVE that medical cabinet from IKEA! And we have a warehouse not far from us. I must investigate this, for if they have one in white, I can easily see this in my 3 season porch! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Your comments are truly honored and I thank you for acknowledging Oldenberg's muse.....yes, an artist/poet/actor/writer....we all have to find something DIFFERENT in the ordinary objects that surround us. And I agree that larger pieces are a bear to produce and house. That is what happened to me. I made a life-size paper wedding dress for a local shop window and that was great. I also made a life-size ballet tutu that I used for an art show, but it ended up in my home, taking up too much space. I ended up selling it for a song and paid almost as much in shipping it as I earned from selling it!
But we create because we have to. These days however, I am writing poetry aside from my blog posts, hence the sparse blog posts. But your kind comment really made me feel good. Yes, things of beauty do take time, and a real poem could take MONTHS to massage and bring into the world.

I know of what you speak, and as far as writing, when I wrote my novel, I couldn't quit editing. If it were in book form, I'd still be writing in the margins. PS ~ I couldn't think of the word margin and had to go ask Dr. T what it was. See previous post. And, they do have the cabinet in white.
That is a cool chest from Ikea - I'd drive to Dallas and pick it up if gas and shipping costs are the same - that way you can also have a shopping day!
