Home

I wrote down the piece at the bottom of the post years ago and found it in a stack of yet more paper.
My Mom died when she was 40; our family died that day too as did our 'home'.  My youngest brother, 3 at the time and 13 years younger than me, hasn't contacted us in 3 or 4 years.  Todd had a terrible life after Mom died.  Last I heard he was in jail for meth.  My sister and I finally gave up on him - didn't stop loving him.  If you've gone down that road you'll understand.
Very sad.  But, this piece (not of my own writing) is for all the lost; not only like Todd, but those who have lost lives and/or loved ones, those whom long for home...  I don't even know why I'm telling this as I am usually very private about my life. The following is really beautiful.

"Home is not simply a mark upon a map any more than a river is just water.
It is the place at the center of the compass
from which every arrow radiates and where the heart is fixed.
It is a force that forever draws us back; shores us up.
For where the home is, there lies hope, and the future waits
and everything is possible."

Your mum died so very young, I couldn't even imagine the devastation to a family.

Oftentimes 'tough-love' prevails, with those who have taken the wrong path.
The quote is so beautiful, and truly sums it all up.
Beautiful post.

Thank you so, sweet Jo. Tough love works for some (hopefully the young), but not others. Then, when you have no more tears and nothing left to give, and give and give... Aeschylus said something about "the pain that never sleeps". I've always felt and remembered it.

I only remember Todd as that little boy. I hope he finds home.

Dearest Tracy, I could not have made it without you after Mom died. Todd is kind hearted, but as the twig is bent, so shall it grow. I'll never get over it. What is Hangout? Tried to leave a message there.

Thank you for your kindness, Becky. Home is such a powerful thing. Tom Wolfe (I think) said, "You can never go home again". Katharine Anne Porter said something like this, "BS. It's the only place you can go." I love the cognitive dissonance going on there.

Thomas Wolfe it was.

I appreciate you speaking from the heart..Most of us..we've all got something..
In hearing about others losses..it doesn't make ours more or less..it just puts an arm around us..saying..you're not the only one.
Love ly words you wrote..and that chair is so... well..it could be here:-)

Thanks Monique. I am reminded time and again that we are all in this together. That chair was the best purchase; it is down filled and I have a red striped floral cover for it also. I have it in my little Tulsa house and in the living room most of furnishings are blue and white.
