Pie

My sister has come for a visit this weekend.  She always expects a cherry pie (two cans of cherries cost $6.84), fresh eggs and whatever else I've canned or put up. We have to go to an expensive local restaurant she loves and she has to have a back tickle.

Yes, she is the older sister.  You have to have one to understand.  Mind you, like being the middle child, older sisters are the queen bees in family dynamics. In fact, I rarely (every few years) get to go to her house because she won't let me bring my dogs.  But, I love her so - can't imagine life without her.

Mmmm! Cherry pie - there was one café I used to go to in my youth that served the most delicious cherry pie I have ever tasted - I am drooling just thinking about it. Your sister sounds very demanding - as you say - good job you love her.

My mother told the story of vacationing in the thirties. She was a teenager. They stayed in roadside cabins and went to local eateries for meals. A favorite vacation was through Michigan, where she had cherry pie every morning for breakfast.

Thank you Monique. She is a one of a kind. Self sufficient since she was a teen, she was an elementary school principle and is the total opposite of me. Very girly and outgoing; an extrovert and now a wonderful grandmother. And, did I mention her two children are incredible and I love them so too.

Elaine, you have to use tart cherries. They are paramount to a good cherry pie. For the crust, I use shortening and butter which makes a very flaky crust. KK is demanding and I wouldn't have her any other way.

Joanne, that's just what we do when she comes to visit.

Your pie looks delicious and so great you have your sister visit. You are to be complimented for overlooking certain traits and enjoying and focusing what you have together.
Wishing you a wonderful week'

You also Helen. I'm going to have to go back and edit the post as I must have made her sound somewhat something; I not sure what. Like I said, you have to have an older sister to understand the dynamics.

I would love an older sister, someone to look up to, instead I AM the older sister to a younger brother.
I think I am capable of eating your whole pie, maybe in just one sitting, it looks scrumptious.
Enjoy your sister time together !
Hugs,
~Jo

Oh yeah, I have a big sis too, She is in charge for sure. I'lve just walked your garden below and seen that amazing pool of water lilies, wow what a gathering, you could sell about a hundred of those on Craigs list for some extra gardening dough!

Jeri, I was thinking of that old song by Carly Simon, My Older Sister. It starts, "she rides in the front seat, she's my older sister. She know her power over me. She goes to bed an hour later than I do..." I throw the detrius from the gold fish pond in the farm ponds, hoping some will grow out there.

Penny was just here visiting a few weeks ago and it was very very busy! I told her there was no way to do it ALL but we nearly did.
