I am Mother Nature - interested in any and everything, but nature is far and above all else. I have a robin and a young squirrel that have befriended me. Every evening, the robin comes and sits on the fence near me. All day long this squirrel comes. I can even call him now and he comes.
Of course, the weenies come running and chase him off whenever they see him, but he comes right back, peeking around the plants and such, stays only about two feet away.
He'll go off a little way, then come right back.
He looks in my windows and makes noises if I'm in the house. I was on the dock feeding the geese and turtles and looked down and he was a foot away from me. I had the fleeting thought that he's getting pretty fearless; a vision of him jumping in my hair or face with those little cat-like claws and had to shoo him back.
I finally figured why the robin comes in the evening. He's looking for some pecans too. I threw a few pieces down and he immediately jumped down and ate them up. Just hope Squirrely doesn't bite the hand that feeds him.
PS ~ I have been grabbed and bitten by a squirrel before and the claws and teeth hurt. It bit my fingernail too.

I too have taken a bit, naming the critter Lucky.I have new babies in a hollow tree but the mother eats well to feed them better
He looks in your window?? Next he'll be ringing the doorbell! Cheeky little guy. -Jenn
City squirrels are friendlier than country ones. See more people.
Yes, looks in and even makes noises to get my attention. Once, when I opened the door, I thought he was going to jump inside.
I have always enjoyed the way squirrels run with their fluffy tails fanning out behind them.
I sit and look out my studio window all the time. Heaven.
Did you get my studio reply on my blog ?
cheers, parsnip and thehamish
I didn't Gayle. I'll go back and see if I can find it. I am a nosy Mother Nature.
I hope you're not going to regret this friendship, Donna! We are plagued with squirrels, they come from the woods at either side of our hamlet and dig up bulbs, steal the walnuts, carry them off or bury them in my pots! Young walnut trees pop up all over the place. They are also partial to strawberries the minute they are ripe. (And they breed like rabbits!)
I hear you Rosemary. Rats with a fluffy tail. He started it and I fell for it. When he jumps on me it's over. He is young so I blame his lack of squirrel etiquette on that.
I giggled at the thought of that cute fellow "getting familiar" after all that visiting. What a cutie, and what a blessing to be so imprinted on a wild little creature.
If you ever have a few minutes, I've known quite a few of those friendly small fellows, myself: https://lawntea.blogspot.com/2009/01/squirrels.html
Don't often link my blog to anyone, but we're kindred spirits when it comes to fluffy wild things. And turtles. And birds.

I befriended chipmunks and wrens at the old house. I wouldn't call the hummers friends, though. They just wanted the feeders filled.
I don't love squirrels:(
Damage damage damage here..:( Cute in their manners etc..but destructive to bulbs..plants and I am a plant lover. They eat my tomatoes Donna:(
I am also a nature lover. No squirrels here. Pretty things. And yes, I have heard they are destructive, but so are a lot of the birds we welcome. Destructive, incontinent welcome vandals.
I don't even know how to link. I have in the distant future, but if I don't do it often, I completely forget. He makes really loud noises too. I'm not sure what he does, but when I hear a loud noise out the door, I know he's there. Yes, we are kindred spirits.
I do have a feeder out for the hummers, my only feeder now, and have seen one here, but only at the flowers.
Wow, Monique. Didn't know they ate things like that. I did see him eating crape myrtle buds. Hmmmm. When I was at a park in Paris, I asked a man sitting on a bench where all the squirrels were. He told me no squirrels in Paris. I spent lots of time feeding birds my morning baguettes.
I did wonder Child. I had an Amazon parrot and his beak was fearsome. As long as he doesn't try and get in the house and attic he is welcome. Or jump in my hair.
That melts my heart. You really are Mother Nature.
Hopefully this little guy isn't a biter.
Years ago I had a squirrel like this. I enjoyed it, but I was always afraid he would jump on me. You never know! Be careful and enjoy your new friend.
Me too. Last time, I wondered if squirrels get rabies, but didn't go for the shots. He just wanted his little peanut butter sandwich.
That's exactly what I thought. Once, when I opened the door, he was sitting on the top of my chair and I definitely thought it was going to jump so I quickly closed the door. I am definitely not going to encourage closer contact. Now, if I could just charm the birds out of the trees....
hahahahahaha we all are.
He is a wonderful little pal! He reminds me of the little squirrel I raised from a wee baby. Animals sense who are friends and who is a danger to them. I think they want to be our companions and find us quite curious creatures.
We just love animals, don't we Jeri?
I meant past. How did I turn that around?
I like squirrels. well, I have a love/hate relationship with them. I do like to watch them but I don't like their insistence on jumping on the tea cup bird feeder and pigging out and one of them has learned to climb up the totem bird feeder despite the slinky. that really pisses me off.
Glad to know about the slinky. I was going to try it against the rats. Squirrely must be re-incarnated from someone I knew.
Why is it Donna that the cutest and fuzziest creatures have such power to hurt you? He is adorable...hopefully he will only get so close. Hugs!
