Still trying to catch rats. I've spent over $100. trying to put a dent in the rat populations around the city house. I had field rats the cats would bring in at the farm, but never anything like this. These are tunnelers and climbers and evidently, friendly little shits. And, by the way, I read they like that too. I never had to pick up after the dogs at the farm, but it is nearly on a daily basis in the city. Geez Louise.
This little machine is supposed to electrocute them. Haven't gotten one. I'm thinking about taking it back since it was $50.00. I'll believe anything. Seems the varmints are phobic about new things. Problem is, I don't want to leave it on during the day as my weenies might get their noses fried. I finally purchased two more enclosed units with poison and placed them around the sides of the house past the fence, so the weenies can't get to it. I'm nearly out of options. I'll check the feeders in a couple of days to see if they have eaten any of the bait. These little critters are pretty smart.

Oh, man. What a pain. I've never seen the 'electric chair' version of rat eradication. Seems the rats have though...
We had an abundance of mice at the old house, but no rats. Kay, the new owner, called and asked me what to do about the mice. "Set traps", I answered. Her response was the flattest "Oh" I've ever heard. Geeze Louise. You live in the country now. All the rats move to the city.
Remove all sources of food, bird feeders etc.
I would be tempted to try one of those electric boxes, before they decide to become your lodgers once winter arrives.
It's a nightmare alright.

Somehow, the machine knows when the rat is inside then zaps it. At least I don't have to watch. I'm getting desperate.
The one thing I can't do is use glue traps. Too cruel.
Nothing for them to eat outside. It kills me to not feed the birds, but that is what they were eating. I'm mentally designing a lever and pulley system to hang the feeders over the lake so the rats can't get to them.

They will learn to walk the line !
The Pack Rats here are so cute but the damage they have caused is a big no !

A big problem, not a fine furry friend
We don't seem to have any in my neck of the country...I would love to get rid of rose chafers and they are small..but devastating.I tink I need mini electric chairs or guillotines..off with all their heads.
I hope animal protection doesn't contact me for these words.

Ants and rats. They are driving me crazy.
I know Monique. About the animal people anyway. My gardens go down to the edge of the lake and all the other homes just have grass to the lake. Perfect habitat for them in my yard. The former owners, big gardeners, had roses all in the upper garden and one summer those little bugs killed their roses and ones all over the city. I am also battling ants right now.
My rat boxes worked great but I didn't have to open and check, I paid the guy to do it. Fair warning if even a day or two goes by you will have flies and maggots. I noticed the flies after two days and by the time the guy opened on third day he said it was really gross.
Good luck. Rats (and cockroaches) are going to outlive us all I think.
Oh Donna, those rats are becoming out of control. I know you are worried about your little pets. I rigged up some empty heavy plastic flower pots joined together with a tiny hole in one end and a nice bunch of poison inside so my cats wouldn't get into it out in the shed. I imagine dogs are better able to get into things, so I don't really know what you can try, but I think it is POISON time - big time. Good luck! -Jenn

I'd shoot them with rat shot, but it is illegal to fire guns in the city. That is unless you are a criminal who never gets caught. They'd have me in the big house the minute I shot at one.
They will eat the bird food and mice do too. We have mice, out here in the boondocks, but mostly when the weather gets cold. Good luck!
One of my biggest joys in life is feeding the birds. I had to quit as I saw the rats eating the seed that fell to the ground.
OHMYGOSH Rats I am fighting little japanese beetles with hanging traps LOL
I hope you catch a few of them soon so you can get back to feeding your birds I know they miss their bird food
I would keep the weeines inside until potty time on a leash and set the electric traps closer to your house , we all have such great advice LOL

Dear Donna - it sounds like you are really having a time with those rats. In my experience they are truly very smart. Had one I couldn't catch for anything in our garage. I honestly didn't want him to die so I baited live trap with apples but you are right it was like he knew...sadly rat poisoning had to be used. Felt so bad. My weenies are farm girls and jump around like a bucking bronco if I try to put a leash on them. Think I am trying to kill them.
