Garden Walkabout

Back home from the city to the farm.  I awoke to a cold, windy morning so I won't be doing much outside (there is really so much to do I don't know where to start).  I took one look at the fish pond, but I won't be climbing in it today.  I did finish the turkey and her poults topiary boxwoods.  But, while gawking, I saw that my old weeping Japanese maple in the foreground has, I think, died.  It had some new leaves come out on it this spring, but they have died.  I thought maybe a frost had gotten them, but nothing is returning.  It just up and died.  I can't believe it.

Noticed my clematis is starting to bloom on the patio garden fence.  Spring is moving right along without me.  I've tried to teach my husband that gardening doesn't wait for anyone, and now, I am going to have to remind myself of that.  But, it's going to have to wait till tomorrow.

Your garden is looking beautiful and so green ! Maybe you can give the Japanese Maple a little longer to prove itself before giving it the chop.
Your Clematis is ahead of ours, and after a solid week of rain, it's raining and cold. Not the kind of weather that entices you to tackle those much needed garden chores.
Your pond is gorgeous, but you couldn't pay me a king's ransom to step inside and clean it out...lol
Enjoy your week dear one.

Hello Donna,

I love the image of the statuary and clematis. It is certainly evocative of Spring.
Wishing you a great week

Yes, Jo, I think you get all the weather we do a day later. It is still a muddy bog around here which I dislike immensely and the rain keeps coming. Our farm ponds are full. I just hope I get in the goldfish pond before a water moccasin does. I have seen three snakes around the farm so far this spring, so I know they are coming out of hibernation. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Yes Monique. It is a dino made out of an old Ford truck. We bought it from an artist and it was his first piece.

Thank you so Helen and you have a good week too.

We're still waiting for spring warmth. One good afternoon of flower bed cleanup is in the bag; we need to tackle the raspberries and the lily of the valley bed yet. And, the nasty little cutworms who have no respect for my raspberries.

Oh Joanne, a lily of the valley bed must be heavenly. I've had no luck with raspberries, but wild blackberries abound in my area and we have planted the thornless varieties. The flowers on them are in full bloom and should be ready by the fourth of July.

Donna - love your topiary. What a talented lady you are. Can't believe your clematis is blooming already. Mine will not for another month or more. So nice to see spring has come. Don't worry dear a gardener's job is never done...that is what I enjoy about it. There is always something needing tended or not!!

Thank you Debbie. As you say, gardening is never done, therefore, I wish I were Queen and could tell a cadre of folk to do this, do that. Aw yes, spring...

Sorry about your Japanese maple. We have one and I love its tiny scarlet leaves.

I am almost certain it has died, Amanda. At least 15 years old or older. I love Japanese maples to. A lot of bang for your buck. I will miss it.
