As American...

The boy requested an apple pie.  He has never requested one preferring cherry pie.
Of course I had to comply.
I always use Granny Smith apples for their texture and tartness.
Well, guess what.  For the first time in years, I didn't put a pan under the pie and you know what happened.
The pie bubbled and oozed over into the bottom of my oven. Made quite a mess.
I don't know what I was thinking.
It will never happen again.

Well, it looks fantastic to me!

It was very good Michelle, but made a gooey, terrible mess in the oven. That and I burned a favorite french tea towel trying to get it out. It started smoking up the kitchen too. I won't make that mistake again.

That's a lovely pie. Your pastry looks excellent! (Do you have a 'self-cleaning' oven?) -Jenn

But by golly it looks delicious.

As delicious as pretty, I bet. I hope you didn't think too much of the mess, except when you opened the oven door and tackled it.

gorgeous pie. I always wondered what kind of apples to use for apple pie.

Green transparents are the best, but I can never find them anymore....

I don't know Jenn. I've never tried to on this new oven in city house. It is also a convection oven which I don't have a clue about. I always use Crisco for my crusts - it makes a really flaky crust.

I wish you could taste it Pat. Apple, cherry and pecan are my best loved ones.

Well Jo, it was flatter than usual since half the juice spilled over the size. I don't ever want to clean out that gooey mess again. It was very good as I got a piece out before delivery. I like mine with a melted slice of sharp cheddar cheese on top while others like a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Mine died, as did my Red Rome. I think our soil is too much clay to grow good apples. My excuse anyway. The deer eat most of them anyway.

They are really my favorite Ellen. I even add lemon juice to the mix and half brown sugar to the white sugar to get a caramel flavor. Lots of butter on top and sprinkle of cinnamon before I top the crust. And flour to thicken it.

That's a tight crimp! Yes, I know what you mean about forgetting the put the pan underneath and mess-galore happens. :)

We always have granny smiths in the house - though the birds get most of them. And love them. Red apples are considered inferior.
It is years since I have made a pie. And sadly NOT years since I have had an oven mishap.

The best things generally do come with a mess. : D

My go to crimp, Bea. I've done it all, but usually the quickest way.

I can't find my favorite eating, Red Rome, anywhere. I wouldn't eat a Granny Smith, they are too crisp and tart for me. I eat pies when I make them - therein lies the problem.

If only I didn't like sweets like you Monique.

Yes, it is messy to cook. For me at least.

I'm making apple pie today - my Granny Smiths are calling to me from the fruit basket. I use my friend Penny's recipe with a 'secret ingredient' - love it! I usually lay a sheet of tinfoil on the rack beneath my baking pies to catch any drips even though I have a self-cleaning oven (one of the best kitchen things ever invented!).

BTW Donna - I'm now using Chrome instead of Safari for commenting - seems I can leave you, and others, comments again on the Chrome browser, thankfully! So many people are really upset with Safari.

Happy New Year if I didn't get to say it earlier - Mary x

I had chrome on a different computer Mary and can't remember how I got it. I don't want it to mess up safari on my Mac and iPhone. It drives me crazy. I had hoped Google would had fixed it by now. Do tell your secret. Is it cardamom? I can't think of anything else. Yes, as I live vicariously through you, have a very good 2019.

But it looks like a wonderful pie!!

Jenny thank you so much. It is one of my specialities. You can also make dumplings but rolling a smaller crust, adding half an apple and the rest and pulling it up and wrapping in foil to make it cup the filling. They are good and easier than an entire pie.
