Snowy Morn

We only had a freeze a couple of nights ago.  Leaves and flowers are still on the trees and plants.  The early snow is unusual though not unheard of.  A little creature has been out ahead of me.  It climbed up (or down) the roof.  I need to go get feed for the water fowl, but at least all the bird feeders are full.  I have lots of nuts ready for the squirrels.  So, I guess I am ready for the snow.  The ground is still warm enough to melt it on the roadways, thank goodness.  In this part of the country, we can't drive on the snow as evidenced by all the wrecks.

Old Man Winter

Winter is not for sissies.  We had a mini blizzard yesterday; just a dusting of snow, but I thought the wind would blow my roof off.  The snow was blowing sideways.  It is so cold outside this morning, I am not going to go out to take a picture of snow on this little Christmas decoration.

It got down to 3 degrees last night; it hasn't been that cold since 1983. The lake out back is frozen over.  When I raised the blinds this morning, the ducks came in for a landing and slid around like ice skaters.

I stayed holed up in the house and there were many car wrecks on the highways.  I worry when it gets this cold - about the water lines freezing and bursting, the animals - everything.  Those brave souls that live up north must be made of stronger stuff than I am.

I made my first batch of peanut brittle yesterday for Christmas and guess what happened?  It pulled a tooth crown right off.  Now, I have to see if I can find a dentist to cement it back on as I'm not going back to the farm until after the holidays.  If I can't find a dentist in the city to do it, I guess I'll superglue it back on.  An expensive piece of candy. Aye yay yay! And, I'm not through shopping, wrapping and baking for Christmas.

HO HO HO!

Ignoring Winter

Okay.  I promised myself I would not complain about winter anymore: instead I am ignoring it as you may have noticed on my header.  Indian Paintbrush from last spring.  I do love wildflowers.  But, here is a problem I am not ignoring.  I was gone most of last week and came home to read all the blogs I have missed.  What?  My dashboard says I am not following any blogs and doesn't show them.  It has been two days (now over a week) and nada.  Any suggestions?  I've tried to contact blogger and no help has been forthcoming.  I would just hate to lose all my favorite bloggers (much less have to find them and type all of them in again).

Hello Out There

It has been just over a week since Sister's eye surgery and she can see.  Sister and I are blessed. The best Christmas gift ever.  I have spent most of the week holding her so she doesn't scratch her eyes out so this is the most I can come up with at the moment.   My Bella making a snow angel last winter. It is all good.

Saving Grace

Well, I guess you can see where I am going with this.  No decorations, nor wreaths. No tableaux of holiday refinements.

Bah Humbug!

Why would anyone in their right mind want to live where it does this in the winter?  I must not be in my right mind because it has been freezing for days on end now, yet here I am. Jack Nicholson in The Shining?  Cabin fever?  I know of what they speak.  Roads impassable.  Feeding the animals is horrible.  Part of the greenhouse caved in.  Winter is my hell.  Guess the damn persimmon was right.

Chekhov writes about "grief" to describe cold weather.  Don't  like the Russian writers, but he got that right.

The only saving graces are birdwatching -

and this pic of my little snagglepuss snow angel, Bella.

Here is a line from Hans Christian Anderson's THE SNOW QUEEN  -  "The flake of snow grew larger and larger; and at last it was like a young lady dressed in the finest white gauze, made of a million little flakes like stars."

Doesn't take very long to make me feel better.

Winter Wonderland

Winter wonderland - Ha.
I wish I could go out and play, alas, I'll have to be content to count the minutes until spring has sprung. Can you tell I don't like winter? My husband says, "you don't like summer either," but that's not true.  I don't like it when it is 115 degrees and hasn't rained for months, but this time of year, even that sounds good.
