I had a good amount of tomatoes left on the vine and thought I'd get another crop out of them before a frost. The deer had other ideas and ate all the tops and leaves off the plants. And mind you, they climb up onto a three foot high deck to get at them. With nothing left to sustain their growth, I decided to pick them and try a third batch of dried tomatoes.
Since these had less juice than red ripe ones, they didn't take as long to dry and they have quite a nice tang to them. I will try to rehydrate them in olive oil and garlic soon. Possibly, on top of a flat bread of some sort, maybe even pasta. I think these will turn out nicely.

Oh yes I have a full new crop of tomatoes that I'm trying to rush along. I don't have the problem with deer but fear the weather will be the culprit.
Thanks for the idea to dry them..
We make green tomato jam - heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're gorgeous! I was thinking chowchow, with a little onion and a bit of sugar and Apple Cider Vinegar, scattered with the tiniest dots of pimiento and some mustard seeds. Oh. My. Now that will be like Goblin Market til I can find some green ones. Or maybe with this humongous white pumpkin, like Ma Ingalls.
And you DID fry a little plate for your supper?

No, but I love fried green tomatoes. I'm alone for 10 days and too lazy to cook for myself. Spoon of peanut butter, cheese, stuff like that. I did make a potato salad the other day and have been eating on that. That must count for something.
Dear Donna - I have never ate fried green tomatoes. Have ate them in green tomato chow chow. Mine are gone though - so next year will give them a try. Yours look divine - may be I should stop by your place instead of waiting for some of mine next growing season. (LOL)
Hello, I came and took a look around (interesting place) because your comment on Going Gently suggested you might need a bit of human contact, even if virtual :)
These look delicious but when I see them only one thing comes to mind, fried green tomatoes :)
What a kind thing to say.
Sara, my favorite way to eat them too. They are the perfect fruit/veggie to batter and fry. They have a wonderful flavor instead of just the oil and batter.
Debbie, I'll have to see where you live. You can't be a southerner. I have seen them even on hamburgers around here.
They are beautiful!
